Drying Solutions for Polymers, Rubber & Resins

Polymer, resin and rubber processors dry plastic and polymer granules, polypropylene and polymeric beads, resin powders, phenolic and organic resins, recycled PET flakes, fibres, rubber crumb, carbon black and fillers such as calcium carbonate and talc. Residual moisture causes bubbles, hydrolysis and weak mouldings, and some resins soften or sinter if overheated. GEM applies fluid bed, flash, paddle and flaker equipment, with coolers, to suit each polymer.

Quick answer

For polymers, rubber & resins, GEM dries 14 materials across 3 application areas. The dryers specified most often are the Vibratory Fluid Bed Dryer, Drum Flaker and Flash Dryer, chosen per material after a pilot trial.

Why polymers, rubber & resins plants invest in drying

  • Residual surface moisture on granules causes voids, splay marks and rejected mouldings at the customer's plant.
  • Low-melting resins soften and agglomerate in the dryer if temperature control is poor, blocking airflow and discharge.
  • Polymer fines and resin dust carry explosion risk, requiring careful dryer design, venting and dust collection.
  • Molten resins and waxes need fast, uniform solidification into flakes for bagging, and slow cooling creates lumps.

Why GEM

How we work with polymers, rubber & resins plants

Fluid bed for granules

Vibratory and combination fluid bed dryers move granules and beads gently in heated air, giving uniform surface drying with limited attrition, followed by cooling.

Flaking for melts

Drum flakers solidify molten resins, waxes and chlorinated paraffin into uniform flakes, replacing manual cooling trays and giving consistent product for packing.

Controlled temperature profiles

Air temperature and residence time are set around each polymer's softening behaviour, and trials at our Dried & Tested facility confirm limits before scale-up.

FAQ

Polymers, Rubber & Resins: questions buyers ask

Fluid bed or flash dryer for resin powder?
Flash dryers suit fine, non-sticky resin powders that dry within seconds, while fluid bed dryers suit granules and beads needing longer, gentler residence. Particle size and softening temperature largely decide between them.
Can a dryer handle low-melting polymers safely?
Yes, with the right design. Inlet air temperature, product temperature and residence time are kept below the point where the polymer softens. Vibratory fluid beds with cooling zones are common for heat-sensitive granules.
Do you supply drum flakers for chlorinated wax?
Yes. Drum flakers cool molten chlorinated wax, resins and similar products on a chilled rotating drum and scrape them off as uniform flakes, ready for bagging without manual breaking or tray cooling.

Send us a sample. See it dried.

We trial your material in our pilot facility before any equipment decision, then size the dryer from real data.

  1. Tell us the material, moisture and throughput.
  2. An engineer confirms the trial plan and sample shipping.
  3. You get drying data and a sized recommendation with a budget quotation.
