De-oiled Cake

De-oiled Cake Drying

De-oiled cake drying finishes the solvent-extracted residue from rice bran, mustard, groundnut and other oilseeds in Indian and Asian solvent plants. DOC is traded in large volumes for cattle feed and organic fertilizer, and its moisture strongly affects its price and storage. Plants dry it to reach buyer limits and to avoid lumps and mould in stock.

Quick answer

To dry de-oiled cake, GEM recommends the Paddle Dryer and Rotary Tube Bundle Dryer. Typical moisture is 15–22% in the feed and 9–11% after drying. Industrial Cooler is used when the feed or site calls for it. Every project starts with a pilot trial on your own sample.

The challenge

What makes De-oiled Cake hard to dry

  • Any residual hexane must be removed safely, so open hot-air drying is unsuitable for DOC.
  • Fine cake particles cake into lumps when moist, which hinders handling and pelleting.
  • Rice bran DOC can carry silica and husk, abrading screws and dryer internals.
  • Feedstock changes between seasons, such as rice bran versus mustard cake, alter drying rate and the settings needed.
How GEM dries it

The right dryer for De-oiled Cake

A sealed paddle dryer heats DOC through jacketed walls and hollow paddles, keeping any solvent traces enclosed and breaking lumps as it dries. Steam-tube dryers suit larger plants with steam surplus, and a cooler conditions cake before bagging.

What drying De-oiled Cake unlocks

Meeting moisture specifications avoids price deductions and rejected loads. Dry DOC stores in bulk without caking and can be pelleted for easier export and lower freight.

Dried De-oiled Cake becomes

  • Cattle feed ingredient
  • Poultry feed protein
  • Organic fertilizer and manure
For buyers

Buying a De-oiled Cake dryer?

Plants searching for a de-oiled cake dryer or comparing a DOC drying machine usually need three answers: which dryer fits, what it costs to run, and how fast it pays back. For De-oiled Cake, we start from your throughput, current moisture (typically 15–22%) and the target (9–11%), trial a sample on the Paddle Dryer, and return a sized recommendation with a budget quotation for your animal feed and agriculture operation.

FAQ

De-oiled Cake: questions buyers ask

Is de-oiled cake already dry from the solvent plant?
It leaves the desolventiser hot and moist and often needs final drying and cooling. Without it, cake can lump, heat and mould during storage, and buyers may deduct price for moisture above their limit.
Can de-oiled cake be dried with a direct hot-air dryer?
It is not advised because of possible residual solvent and combustible dust. Indirect, sealed dryers such as paddle or steam-tube units are the safer choice.
