Where moisture becomes a quality, capacity or compliance problem.

Across food, seafood, pharma, biotech, chemicals, semiconductor, battery, biomass, sludge and recycling processes, excess or inconsistent moisture can affect specification, purity, throughput, storage, emissions, energy use and process safety.

Seafood / Marine

High-moisture marine materials can deteriorate quickly if not stabilized.

Fish, seafood by-products and seaweed can require rapid moisture reduction while controlling hygiene, odour, fat content and product sensitivity.

Drying objective: stabilize moisture around the intended food, feed, ingredient or recovery route.
Food / Grain

Final moisture must be repeatable without compromising texture or product quality.

Rice, grain, vegetable and functional-food products can be sensitive to overheating, colour, flavour, hygiene and residence time.

Drying objective: achieve stable final moisture with controlled temperature, airflow and residence time.
Pharma / Biotech

Sensitive materials need narrow thermal and moisture control.

APIs, intermediates and biological materials may require controlled temperature, containment and validated final moisture.

Drying objective: define the drying basis around sensitivity, containment, residence time and final specification.
Semiconductor / Electronics

Trace moisture and contamination can affect high-value material performance.

Electronic chemicals, high-purity powders and process precursors may require clean handling, controlled atmosphere and tight moisture specifications.

Drying objective: control moisture and contamination around the downstream process specification.
Battery Materials

Moisture can affect precursor handling and downstream electrochemical performance.

Cathode, anode, graphite and precursor materials can require low residual moisture, clean material handling and repeatable drying conditions.

Drying objective: establish a controlled drying basis around product chemistry and final moisture specification.
Chemical / Solvent

Residual moisture or solvent can cause caking, instability or off-spec product.

Chemical cakes, salts and crystals may also introduce corrosion, solvent-vapour, dust or explosion-risk considerations.

Drying objective: match the dryer to material behaviour, construction materials and hazard profile.
Dryer Fire Safety

South Korean workplace rules contain specific requirements for drying equipment.

For applicable drying equipment, Articles 280 to 283 of the Rules on Occupational Safety and Health Standards address building arrangement, non-combustible construction, safe discharge of gas, vapour or dust, ventilation before ignition, temperature control, electrical equipment and operating precautions.

Drying objective: review the heat source, material hazard and dryer construction against these site-use requirements before installation.
South Korea Conformity

There is no single universal Korean certification for every complete industrial dryer.

Depending on the configuration, pressure vessels, explosion-proof electrical equipment, regulated electrical products, EMC/communications equipment, gas systems, food-contact surfaces and emissions can follow different Korean certification, registration, inspection or permit routes.

Drying objective: identify the applicable Korean route during project engineering rather than after shipment.

Prove the drying basis before committing to the machine.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be trialed to establish drying behaviour, target moisture, residence time and a practical scale-up basis before final equipment selection.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer types are considered according to the material rather than forcing every application into one machine.

03

Energy-conscious process design

Airflow, heat input, recirculation and residence time are engineered around the evaporation load and available plant utilities.

04

Continuous industrial throughput

Systems can be configured for continuous production where batch drying creates labour, consistency or capacity limitations.

05

Integration with the South Korean plant process

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, hygiene, dust management, exhaust treatment and downstream interfaces can be evaluated as one process.

06

South Korea compliance planning

Applicable machinery safety, KCs, electrical safety, EMC/RRA, pressure-vessel, explosion-proof, gas, food-contact and environmental requirements can be reviewed during engineering so the compliance route is defined before shipment.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish what must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which South Korean technical or regulatory requirements need to be considered.

01 / APPLICATION DATA

Define the South Korean plant requirement

Material, feed rate, inlet moisture, target moisture, operating hours, temperature limits, utilities, plant location and downstream objective.

02 / DRIED & TESTED

Pilot Trial

Where appropriate, test representative material to validate drying behaviour and practical operating conditions before scale-up.

03 / PROCESS + COMPLIANCE

System Design

Develop evaporation load, residence time, airflow, heating, material movement, controls, risk assessment, exhaust treatment and the applicable South Korean certification, registration or inspection path.

04 / PROJECT EXECUTION

Supply & Commissioning Support

Coordinate manufacturing, technical documentation, Korean-language information where required, installation supervision, commissioning and interfaces with Korean certification, inspection or site-permit processes where applicable.

Industrial dryer questions South Korean plants ask before they buy.

These are the process, engineering, safety, conformity, environmental, operations and procurement points typically established before selecting an industrial dryer for South Korea.

What South Korea industries can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?
We work across food and ingredients, seafood, seaweed, rice and grain, fermentation, vegetables and agricultural products, feed and aquafeed, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, nutraceuticals, specialty chemicals, pigments, semiconductor materials, battery materials, pulp and paper, biomass, sludge, recycling, minerals and ceramics.
Can GEM Drytech test our material before we invest in a full-scale dryer?
Yes. Through the Dried & Tested pilot program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final equipment selection.
Can the dryer be designed around our required final moisture and production rate?
Yes. Dryer configuration is developed around feed moisture, target final moisture, throughput, thermal sensitivity, particle characteristics, utilities, hygiene or containment needs and downstream process requirements.
Does every complete industrial dryer require KCs safety certification in South Korea?
No. South Korea's Occupational Safety and Health Act applies mandatory safety certification only to specified hazardous machinery, equipment, protective devices and PPE. The current Enforcement Decree lists nine machinery or equipment categories such as presses, cranes, lifts, pressure vessels and several others; explosion-proof electrical machinery, equipment and components are also listed as safety-certification targets. A complete process dryer is therefore not automatically a KCs-certified product, but specific parts of the dryer package may fall within mandatory certification or self-declaration scope.
Are there specific South Korean workplace rules for drying equipment?
Yes. Articles 280 to 283 of the Rules on Occupational Safety and Health Standards contain specific provisions for drying equipment. For applicable installations, these provisions address the building arrangement for hazardous-material drying rooms, non-combustible construction, safe discharge of gas, vapour or dust, ventilation before ignition when liquid fuel or flammable gas is used, temperature control, dedicated electrical wiring and precautions during operation.
What applies if the dryer package includes a pressure vessel?
Pressure vessels are one of the machinery or equipment categories listed for mandatory safety certification under the Occupational Safety and Health Act Enforcement Decree. The exact KCs certification, installation and periodic safety-inspection obligations depend on the pressure-vessel type, size, pressure, contents and use. Pressure-vessel scope should therefore be confirmed separately during engineering.
What applies if combustible dust, solvent vapour or gas creates an explosion risk?
Explosion-proof electrical machinery, equipment and components are listed among South Korea's safety-certification targets under the Occupational Safety and Health Act framework. The dryer project should therefore establish hazardous areas, dust or vapour characteristics, ignition sources, required protection concept and the certification status of electrical equipment used in hazardous locations.
Does the Korean KC electrical-safety scheme automatically apply to a complete industrial dryer?
No. The Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act applies safety certification, safety confirmation or supplier-conformity routes to specified regulated electrical products. KATS maintains the current list and safety standards for regulated electrical products. A complete industrial process dryer should not be advertised as universally KC electrical-safety certified unless the final product or specific components actually fall within the regulated scope and have completed the applicable route.
What EMC or RRA conformity requirements can apply to dryer controls and industrial electronic equipment?
South Korea's Radio Waves Act conformity-assessment system is administered by the National Radio Research Agency. It covers conformity certification, conformity registration and interim conformity for broadcasting and communications equipment, and RRA guidance lists industrial devices among examples that can be subject to conformity registration. PLCs, industrial computers, communication modules, control equipment and other electronic products should therefore be checked against the current RRA scope and EMC technical standards.
What applies to gas-fired dryers or burner systems in South Korea?
Gas facilities and gas-related products in South Korea can be subject to the High-Pressure Gas Safety Control Act, the Safety Control and Business of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Act, the Urban Gas Business Act and detailed KGS Codes, depending on the gas type, facility and product. KGS performs facility and product inspection and publishes technical KGS Codes. The burner, gas train, fuel supply and site installation should therefore be reviewed as a project-specific gas-safety scope rather than assuming one universal dryer certification.
Can a food dryer be designed around South Korean food-contact requirements?
Yes. Food-contact parts can be designed around the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Standards and Specifications for Utensils, Containers and Packages. The current Korean notification was updated in 2026, and it defines material and migration requirements for food-contact utensils, containers and packaging. Product-contact metallurgy, plastics, seals, coatings and cleaning design should be reviewed against the applicable MFDS requirements.
What environmental or air-emission requirements can affect a dryer project in South Korea?
Depending on industry, scale, fuel use and pollutants generated, drying or heating equipment can fall within air-emission-facility requirements under the Clean Air Conservation Act and its subordinate rules. Some industrial drying facilities are explicitly listed for specific sectors or process conditions. The plant should therefore confirm whether the dryer, burner, dust collector, stack or associated process requires an emission-facility permit or notification and applicable emission-control equipment.
Is KS certification mandatory for every industrial dryer sold in South Korea?
No. KS is South Korea's national standards system, and KS certification applies to designated products and certification schemes rather than automatically to every industrial dryer. Relevant KS, ISO, IEC or other technical standards can still be used as engineering references where applicable, while legal certification requirements should be determined from the actual regulated equipment and components.
Is there one universal South Korea certification for a complete industrial dryer?
No. The compliance route is project-specific. A dryer package can involve KCs machinery or pressure-vessel safety certification, explosion-proof equipment certification, electrical-product KC requirements, RRA EMC conformity registration, KGS gas requirements, MFDS food-contact rules, environmental permits and workplace dryer-safety requirements depending on the final configuration and intended use.
When is an external Korean certification or inspection body required?
Third-party involvement depends on the regulated equipment. KOSHA's Occupational Safety and Health Certification Institute handles KCs safety certification and self-declaration processes for relevant hazardous machinery and protective devices; RRA administers conformity assessment for applicable broadcasting and communications equipment; KGS performs gas-facility and product inspections; and product-specific electrical safety certification is handled through approved Korean certification bodies. The required body should be selected only after the final scope is classified.
Can GEM Drytech provide South Korea-market-compatible components and documentation?
Yes. Component selection, electrical architecture, PLC/HMI controls, motors, VFDs, safety devices, instrumentation, drawings, Korean-language information where required, risk documentation, pressure-equipment records, inspection evidence and project-specific conformity documents can be planned during engineering according to the final machine scope and customer requirements.
What information should we share to receive a dryer recommendation?
Please share the material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, particle or sludge characteristics, temperature limits, available heating source, electrical supply, South Korean plant location and intended use of the dried product.
