Industrial drying engineered for Tanzania’s production needs.

Tanzania combines major cashew, coffee, tea, sisal, grain, oilseed, sugar, cotton, fisheries, forestry and mineral processing industries. Moisture affects product quality, storage, transport costs, energy consumption and factory throughput.

Each system is sized around feed moisture, target moisture, evaporation load, product sensitivity, available heat, hygiene, dust control, emissions and site-specific Tanzanian OSHA, TBS and NEMC requirements.

Industrial dryer questions Tanzanian plants ask before purchasing.

Process, engineering, safety, conformity, environmental, operations and procurement points typically established before selecting an industrial dryer for Tanzania.

What Tanzanian industries can GEM Drytech serve?

We design around cashew, coffee, tea, sisal, maize, rice, cassava, sunflower and oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, cloves and spices, fruit, coconut, fish, livestock feed, wood and biomass, fertilizer, chemicals, sludge, minerals and cement.

Can GEM Drytech carry out pilot trials for Tanzanian customers?

Yes. Dried & Tested trials use representative materials to assess the moisture target, residence time, product behaviour and scale-up requirements.

Which Tanzanian machine-safety rules should be considered?

The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2003 (Act No. 5 of 2003) sets the occupational safety framework and is administered by OSHA Tanzania. Workplace registration, inspection, testing and operator requirements depend on the equipment and the site, with subsidiary rules such as the Occupational Safety and Health (Vessels Under Pressure) Regulations, 2016 and the Lifting Appliances and Gears Rules, 2015. Applicability should be established for the actual machine and location.

Does an industrial dryer automatically require TBS certification?

No. Tanzania Standards (TZS) are not universally mandatory for all industrial dryers. Mandatory certification and Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity (PVoC) apply only where the product falls within the regulated scope administered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards under the Standards Act No. 2 of 2009, and capital goods are treated differently from consumer products. The current regulated-products list and HS classification should be confirmed with TBS before import or sale.

Which OSHA Tanzania checks can apply before commissioning?

Depending on equipment classification and workplace use, workplace registration, inspection, testing, guarding, emergency-stop functions and operator qualification may be required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2003 and its regulations, with examinations carried out by an authorised plant inspector where that applies.

What rules apply to steam or pressure-based drying equipment?

Steam systems, boilers and pressure equipment may fall under the Occupational Safety and Health (Vessels Under Pressure) Regulations, 2016. Classification, certified examination, operation and the associated documentation must be reviewed for each scope; a dryer itself is not automatically a registered pressure vessel.

What are the environmental requirements for dryer exhaust and emissions?

The Environmental Management Act, 2004 (Cap. 191) governs environmental protection and management, and NEMC administers the Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit Regulations, 2005 as amended in 2018. Depending on the project category, an EIA Certificate, provisional environmental clearance, environmental audit, air-emission standards and effluent standards may apply.

What hygiene requirements matter for food dryers?

Food dryers should be designed for cleanable product-contact surfaces, safe contact materials and contamination control. Food and cosmetics control moved to the Tanzania Bureau of Standards in 2019, so food processors should review the applicable TZS food standards together with premises registration and licensing requirements.

Is a fire safety certificate required for the plant?

Workplaces in Tanzania generally require a Fire Safety Certificate from the Fire and Rescue Force under the Fire and Rescue Force (Safety Inspections and Certificates) Regulations, 2008 as amended. Dryer location, fuel storage, dust handling, detection and escape routes should be reviewed as part of the plant fire-safety case.

Can GEM Drytech supply dryers for cashew processing?

Yes. GEM has international project experience in nut, kernel and food drying and can evaluate continuous band or apron configurations according to feed properties, hygiene, capacity and target moisture for raw nuts, kernels and shell-derived streams.

Can sisal pulp, cashew shells, coffee husk, bagasse and sawdust be dried for energy use?

Yes, subject to material characteristics, feed size, actual evaporation duty, ignition risks, final fuel use and the available heat source.

Can GEM Drytech dry sludge from ETP or municipal treatment facilities?

Yes. Sludge drying is evaluated on wet feed rate, solids concentration, dewatered cake behaviour, final moisture, odour, emissions and the permitted disposal or recovery pathway.

Are electrical and automation components selectable for Tanzanian projects?

Yes. Tanzanian plants are typically supplied at 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase at 50 Hz, and older installations are often still quoted as 240 V / 415 V. TANESCO is the utility and EWURA is the sector regulator. Motors, panels, VFDs, PLC/HMI, protective devices, earthing and instrumentation can be specified against project requirements, the low-voltage installation standards adopted by TBS such as the TZS/IEC 60364 series, and customer plant standards.

What about combustible dust and fire or explosion hazards?

Materials such as grain dust, cashew and spice powders, sisal and wood fines, milk-of-lime and some chemicals require a process-specific dust and fire risk review, ignition-source controls, dust collection and appropriate protection measures. Do not assume any single universal certification applies.

Can Tanzanian plants use steam, thermal oil, electricity, biomass or waste heat?

Yes. The best heating source depends on evaporation load, process temperature, hygiene, energy cost, utility availability and plant emissions requirements. Many Tanzanian sites also have their own biomass residues such as cashew shells, coffee husk, bagasse, rice husk or sawdust available as fuel.

Is CE certification a substitute for Tanzanian approvals?

No. CE marking addresses applicable EU legislation and does not by itself replace Tanzania-specific import, TBS, OSHA, food or environmental requirements. Requirements should be checked for the equipment and the location.

Do East African Community standards apply in Tanzania?

Many Tanzania Standards are adopted East African Standards (EAS) and TBS takes part in EAC harmonisation. Where a harmonised standard exists it can simplify documentation for regional trade, but the applicable national requirements still need to be confirmed for the specific equipment and product.

What information is needed for a techno-commercial drying offer?

Please provide material, composition, wet feed capacity, initial and final moisture, product temperature limit, daily operating hours, available fuel or heat, factory location in Tanzania and the required scope of supply.
