For Ghanaian processors, final moisture can influence stability, flowability, purity, texture, storage, packaging, energy use and downstream processing. The dryer is selected around the product requirement rather than a fixed machine type.
Drying can stabilize wet co-products and process solids, reduce handling burden and support recovery routes where the material, temperature limits and final-use requirements make thermal drying appropriate.
Focused on industries where moisture directly affects product quality, process stability, throughput, storage, purity, energy use, emissions, transport or the value of a wet process stream.

Long-term project relationships, successful commissioning, performance validation and customer support across international markets, including coconut, grain and food processing lines comparable to Ghanaian applications.
Drying equipment for Ghanaian plants must balance process results, factory safety under Act 328, Ghana Standards Authority import conformity, EPA environmental permitting, available utilities and industrial integration.
Representative materials can be tested to define drying behaviour and scale-up parameters.
Select continuous belt, apron, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed or other dryer technologies based on process needs.
Engineer heating, airflow and residence time around evaporation duty and available utilities, including on-site biomass such as palm kernel shells, cocoa shells, rice husk or sawdust.
Support consistent output for production lines handling cocoa, cashew, shea, palm biomass, cassava, fish, agro-products and more.
Coordinate feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, ventilation, controls and downstream interfaces, including design for 230/400 V 50 Hz supply and site voltage variation.
Identify applicable Act 328 factory inspection requirements, GSA EasyPASS import conformity routes, FDA food manufacturing practice requirements and EPA environmental permits under Act 490 and LI 1652 during engineering.
Define the engineering basis and applicable Ghanaian factory safety, import conformity, food or environmental requirements early in the project.
Material, feed rate, incoming and required final moisture, operating hours, product use, available heat, electricity and plant location.
Test a representative wet material to establish actual drying behaviour and a realistic scale-up basis.
Define evaporation load, airflow, controls, hygiene, dust and fire risk, factory inspection needs under Act 328 and GSA conformity documentation for import.
Coordinate equipment documents, GSA EasyPASS pre-shipment verification, local operating procedures, site installation, commissioning, training and project-specific EPA environmental permits.
Process, engineering, safety, conformity, environmental, operations and procurement points typically established before selecting an industrial dryer for Ghana.
We design around cocoa, cashew, shea, oil palm, coconut, cassava, maize and rice, yam and plantain, fruit and vegetable, fish and aquaculture, poultry and feed, sugarcane, rubber, timber and biomass, cotton and textiles, mining and minerals, fertilizer and chemicals, pharmaceuticals and industrial or municipal sludge.
Yes. Dried & Tested trials use representative materials to assess the moisture target, residence time, product behaviour and scale-up requirements.
The Factories, Offices and Shops Act, 1970 (Act 328) establishes the occupational safety framework for factory premises, including machinery guarding, registration with the Department of Factories Inspectorate and accident reporting to the Chief Inspector. The Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) sets general duties for occupational health and safety. Applicability, inspections, testing and operator requirements should be established for the actual machine and site.
Not automatically as a product certification, but imported machinery is covered by the Ghana Standards Authority conformity assessment programme. Since 1 July 2026 the GSA EasyPASS Verification of Conformity has applied to machinery and mechanical appliances and to electrical equipment, based on the date of shipment. A Certificate of Conformity is issued after pre-shipment verification in the country of export and is used for customs clearance. The current HS classification and route should be confirmed with the GSA before shipment.
Three routes are available: Route A is shipment-by-shipment verification, Route B is product registration and Route C is licensing for regular importers. Applications typically require the final or proforma invoice and conformity documents such as test reports, quality certificates or analysis reports, preferably from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. Where acceptable documents are unavailable, control testing may be required.
Depending on equipment classification and workplace use, factory registration, inspection, machinery guarding, emergency-stop functions, fire precautions and operator qualification may be required under Act 328 and the Department of Factories Inspectorate. Certificates of registration are renewable and expire at the end of the year of issue.
Steam systems, boilers and pressure equipment are subject to inspection and certification requirements administered through the Factories Inspectorate, and the scope should be confirmed for each project. Classification, certified inspection, operation and the associated documentation must be reviewed for each scope; a dryer itself is not automatically a certified pressure vessel.
The Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1994 (Act 490) and the Environmental Assessment Regulations, 1999 (LI 1652) require undertakings likely to have significant environmental impact to register with the EPA and obtain an environmental permit before construction and operation. Screening determines whether a full or preliminary assessment is needed, and a provisional permit is replaced by an environmental certificate once permit conditions are met. Periodic environmental monitoring returns are filed with the EPA.
Food dryers should be designed for cleanable product-contact surfaces, safe contact materials and contamination control. Ghanaian food processors should review the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), under which the Food and Drugs Authority registers food manufacturers and requires manufacturing operations to follow the prescribed Good Manufacturing Practice codes, together with FDA facility licensing and food-handler requirements.
Cocoa is regulated through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and its Quality Control Company, which sets grading, moisture and quality requirements for cocoa beans and derived products. Export-grade cocoa is typically held to a tight moisture specification, so the drying and conditioning steps should be designed around the applicable grading standard and the buyer's contract specification.
Yes. GEM has international project experience across nut, kernel, bean and butter processing lines and can evaluate continuous band, apron, rotary or fluid-bed configurations according to feed properties, hygiene, capacity and target moisture.
Yes, subject to material characteristics, feed size, actual evaporation duty, ignition risks, final fuel use and available heat source.
Yes. Sludge drying is evaluated on wet feed rate, solids concentration, dewatered cake behaviour, final moisture, odour, emissions and the permitted disposal or recovery pathway.
Yes. Ghana operates a 230 V single-phase and 400 V three-phase supply at 50 Hz. Motors, panels, VFDs, PLC/HMI, protective devices, earthing and instrumentation can be specified against project requirements, applicable electrical installation rules and customer plant standards.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission requires distribution utilities to keep sustained voltages within 10% of nominal, but plants in Ghana commonly plan for voltage variation and supply interruptions. Motor starting method, protection settings, control-system ride-through, generator or backup arrangements and restart procedures should be agreed during engineering.
Materials such as grain dust, cocoa and cassava powders, fine biomass, sawdust and some chemicals require a process-specific dust and fire risk review, ignition-source controls, dust collection and appropriate protection measures. Do not assume any single universal certification applies.
Yes. The best heating source depends on evaporation load, process temperature, hygiene, energy cost, utility availability and plant emissions requirements. Many Ghanaian sites have access to their own biomass residues such as palm kernel shells, cocoa shells, rice husk or sawdust, which can be evaluated as a dryer heat source.
No. CE marking addresses applicable EU legislation and does not by itself replace Ghana-specific import, GSA conformity, factory safety, food or environmental requirements. Requirements should be checked for the equipment and location.
