Where Mexico plants lose value when moisture stays in the process.

Across biosolids, biomass, feed, food, fertilizer, RDF and chemical processing, excess or inconsistent moisture can increase handling cost, restrict throughput, reduce fuel or product value and make downstream operations harder to control. The right dryer converts that moisture problem into a controlled production step.

Coffee / Agro-Processing

Seasonal variation can change moisture load and drying behaviour.

Pulp, husk, grains, fruit and agricultural residues can vary in size, density and moisture.

Drying objective: define airflow, temperature and residence time for stable final moisture.
Palm / Biomass

Wet fibrous streams can limit storage, combustion or recovery.

Fibre, empty fruit bunches, shell, bagasse and biomass can require moisture reduction before pelletizing, combustion or transport.

Drying objective: reduce moisture with robust material handling and controlled thermal demand.
Chemical / Pharma

Residual moisture can cause caking, instability or off-spec product.

APIs, salts, crystals and chemical cakes can require temperature control, containment, corrosion-resistant materials and vapour management.

Drying objective: match the dryer to product behaviour and hazard profile.
Mining / Minerals

Moisture in cakes and fines can limit transport and downstream processing.

Coal, minerals, wash sludge and filter cakes need robust systems with dust control and solids handling.

Drying objective: reach a moisture level compatible with transport, storage or downstream processing.
Sludge / Residuals

Transporting water increases mass, volume and disposal cost.

Municipal and industrial sludges can require substantial evaporation before disposal, co-processing or recovery.

Drying objective: reduce water and stabilize solids for the intended downstream route.
Electrical Installation / RETIE

Late RETIE scoping can affect panels, wiring, electrical products and inspection.

The current RETIE was modified by Resolution 40284 of 2026 and covers general requirements, regulated products, installations and conformity assessment.

Drying objective: define which parts of the supply and installation fall within RETIE scope before design freeze.
Machinery Safety

Moving parts, transmissions, hot surfaces and points of operation require suitable guarding.

Resolution 2400 of 1979 contains industrial-safety provisions for machinery, guards and equipment in workplaces.

Drying objective: incorporate guards, stopping functions, safe access and operating/maintenance procedures from the design stage.
Colombian Compliance

There is no single certification for every complete industrial dryer.

Depending on configuration, RETIE, SG-SST, machinery safety, GHS for chemicals, food-contact requirements, air-emission rules and site permits can apply.

Drying objective: identify the actual regulatory scope of the project before shipment and installation.

Validate the drying basis before committing to the machine.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be tested to establish drying behaviour, target moisture, residence time and a practical scale-up basis.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer types are evaluated according to the material and process.

03

Energy-conscious process design

Airflow, heat input, recirculation and residence time are designed around evaporation duty and available utilities.

04

Continuous industrial throughput

Systems can be configured for continuous production where batch processing limits labour, consistency or capacity.

05

Integration with the Colombian plant

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, dust, exhaust and downstream interfaces can be evaluated as one process.

06

Colombia compliance planning

RETIE, machinery safety, SG-SST, GHS, food-contact and emission requirements can be reviewed during engineering so responsibilities are defined before supply.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish what must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which Colombian technical requirements need to be considered.

01 / APPLICATION DATA

Define the plant requirement

Material, feed rate, inlet moisture, target moisture, operating hours, temperature limits, utilities, Colombian plant location and downstream objective.

02 / DRIED & TESTED

Pilot Trial

Where appropriate, test representative material to validate drying behaviour and operating conditions before scale-up.

03 / PROCESS + COMPLIANCE

System Design

Develop evaporation load, residence time, airflow, heating, material movement, controls, safety, emissions and the scope of applicable requirements such as RETIE.

04 / PROJECT EXECUTION

Supply & Commissioning Support

Coordinate manufacturing, technical documentation, installation, commissioning and conformity evidence for products or installations where the regulatory scope requires it.

Industrial dryer questions Mexico plants ask before they buy.

These are the points plant, operations, engineering, sustainability and procurement teams typically need to establish before selecting an industrial dryer.

What industries in Colombia can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?

We work across coffee, cocoa, palm, sugarcane, fruit and vegetables, food, dairy, grain, animal feed, pet food, aquafeed, fish, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, nutraceuticals, chemicals, fertilizer, paper, biomass, mining, minerals, sludge and recycling.

Can GEM Drytech test our material before we invest in a full-scale dryer?

Yes. Through the Dried & Tested program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final equipment selection.

Can the dryer be designed around our final moisture and production rate?

Yes. Configuration is developed around feed moisture, target moisture, capacity, thermal sensitivity, physical form, utilities, hygiene, containment, emissions and downstream process requirements.

Is there one mandatory certification for a complete industrial dryer in Colombia?

No. There is no single 'Colombia certification' automatically applicable to every complete industrial dryer. Scope must be reviewed by configuration: electrical installations and regulated products under RETIE, machinery safety and SG-SST, chemicals, food contact, emissions, environmental permits and other site- or sector-specific requirements.

What is RETIE and how can it affect a dryer project in Colombia?

The Technical Regulation for Electrical Installations (RETIE) is mandatory in Colombia for installations, products and processes within its scope. The current version was modified by Resolution 40284 of 23 June 2026 and is organized into four books covering general requirements, regulated products, regulated installations and conformity assessment.

Does the complete dryer itself need RETIE certification?

Not necessarily. RETIE should not be interpreted as universal certification of the complete dryer. The project must identify which electrical products, panels, equipment or installation portions are specifically within scope and which conformity evidence, certification or inspection applies to each.

What machinery-safety requirements should be considered?

Resolution 2400 of 1979 contains industrial-safety provisions for workplaces, including requirements for machinery, transmissions, guards, moving parts, points of operation and other danger zones. System design should address physical guarding, safe access, stopping devices and operating and maintenance procedures.

How does SG-SST relate to dryer installation and operation?

Colombian employers manage occupational safety and health risks under Decree 1072 of 2015 and the minimum standards of Resolution 0312 of 2019. For a dryer project this can include risk assessment, procedures, training, lockout/isolation, maintenance and operational controls.

What applies when the process handles hazardous chemicals, solvents or vapours?

Colombia adopted the Globally Harmonized System through Decree 1496 of 2018. For chemicals in workplaces, Resolution 773 of 2021 defines actions for GHS implementation. The project should review hazard classification, safety data sheets, labelling, exposure, ventilation, containment and emergency controls according to the material.

Can a food dryer be designed around Colombian sanitary requirements?

Yes. Resolution 683 of 2012 regulates materials, objects, packaging and equipment intended to contact food and beverages; Resolution 4142 of 2012 establishes specific requirements for metallic food-contact materials and equipment, and Resolution 2674 of 2013 requires processing equipment to be resistant, hygienic, accessible and cleanable. Final selection depends on the product and sanitary scope.

What environmental requirements can affect dryer exhaust air?

Resolution 909 of 2008 establishes admissible emission standards for stationary sources and has been amended subsequently. Depending on the activity, fuel, capacity and pollutants, the dryer, heater, combustion system, dust collector and stack can require evaluation, monitoring and/or permits from the competent environmental authority.

What should be reviewed if the system uses steam, thermal oil, gas or pressure equipment?

Scope should be defined project by project. In addition to machinery safety, SG-SST and electrical requirements, the applicable requirements for the heat generator, piping, vessels, burner, gas train, safety valves, testing and inspections should be reviewed. International codes such as ASME may be specified contractually, but they do not replace applicable Colombian obligations.

Can UL, CE, IEC or NEMA components be used in a Colombia project?

Yes, when suitable for the customer specification and design. However, CE marking, UL listing or an IEC/NEMA reference does not replace RETIE compliance where a product or installation is within its scope. Required conformity must be defined for each component and the installation.

When is a certification or inspection body required?

When the applicable regulation requires third-party conformity assessment. Under RETIE, certain in-scope products and installations can require certificates, inspection reports, tests or other evidence issued by competent or accredited bodies. Not every project should be assumed to require the same scheme.

Can GEM Drytech prepare technical documentation for the Colombian project?

Yes. Scope can include P&IDs, drawings, equipment lists, control philosophy, manuals, electrical documentation, component data sheets, risk information, emission data and available conformity documentation, according to the equipment and agreed responsibilities.

What information should we share to receive a dryer recommendation?

Please share the material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, physical form, temperature limits, available heat source, electrical supply, plant location in Colombia and intended use of the dried product.
