Where Mexico plants lose value when moisture stays in the process.

Across biosolids, biomass, feed, food, fertilizer, RDF and chemical processing, excess or inconsistent moisture can increase handling cost, restrict throughput, reduce fuel or product value and make downstream operations harder to control. The right dryer converts that moisture problem into a controlled production step.

Mining / Concentrates

Filter-cake moisture can limit transport, storage and downstream processing.

Mineral concentrates, cakes and fines can require high evaporation duty, robust handling and control of abrasive dust.

Drying objective: reach a stable moisture compatible with transport, smelting or downstream processing.
Lithium / Battery Materials

Residual moisture can affect handling, purity and specification.

Lithium salts, brine solids and precursors can require thermal control, compatible construction materials and low contamination.

Drying objective: define temperature, atmosphere and final moisture around product chemistry.
High Altitude / Northern Chile

Altitude changes air density and can affect fans, combustion and heat transfer.

At high-altitude sites, design should consider elevation, ambient temperature, barometric pressure and actual utility availability.

Drying objective: size airflow, fans and the thermal system using actual site conditions.
Pulp / Forestry / Biomass

Variable moisture affects energy, storage and process stability.

Wood chips, sawdust, bark, fibre and paper sludge can show large variation in moisture and bulk density.

Drying objective: achieve uniform moisture for energy, recovery or downstream processing.
Agro-Processing / Wine / Food

Sensitive materials need uniform drying without quality loss.

Fruit, pomace, food ingredients and grape products can be sensitive to temperature, colour, aroma and residence time.

Drying objective: control temperature, airflow and residence time around the product.
Salmon / Fishmeal / Aquafeed

Wet marine materials can deteriorate quickly and generate odour.

Fish residues, wet meal and aquafeed require rapid stabilization, hygiene and control of fat, odour and temperature.

Drying objective: stabilize moisture according to the feed, ingredient or recovery route.
Chemical / Hazardous Substances

Salts, solvents or flammable materials can require additional safety measures.

Hazardous-substance storage is regulated by D.S. 43/2015; D.S. 594 also requires risk control, ventilation, moving-part protection and fire-prevention measures at the workplace.

Drying objective: define the hazard profile, construction materials, ventilation and safety strategy before final design.
Chile Compliance

There is no single universal Chilean certification for every industrial dryer.

Depending on configuration, SEC requirements for regulated electrical or fuel products, D.S. 594 workplace safety, D.S. 10 for steam equipment, D.S. 66 for interior gas installations, D.S. 132 at mining sites and site environmental permits can apply.

Drying objective: define the Chilean regulatory path during engineering rather than after shipment.

Validate the drying basis before committing to the equipment.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be tested to establish drying behaviour, final moisture, residence time and a scale-up basis before final equipment selection.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer technologies are evaluated according to the material and process objective.

03

Energy-conscious design and available heat use

Airflow, thermal input, recirculation and residence time are sized around evaporation load and plant utilities.

04

Engineering for altitude and site conditions

Elevation, ambient temperature, barometric pressure, dust, energy availability and logistics can be incorporated into the design basis.

05

Complete plant integration

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, dust handling, exhaust treatment and downstream equipment can be evaluated as one complete process.

06

Chile regulatory planning

During engineering, the applicable scope of SEC, workplace safety, steam, gas, mining, food, emissions and environmental permitting can be reviewed for the project.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish how much must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which Chilean technical requirements need review.

01 / APPLICATION DATA

Define the Chilean plant requirement

Material, feed rate, inlet moisture, target moisture, operating hours, temperature limit, altitude, heat source and downstream objective.

02 / DRIED & TESTED

Pilot Trial

Where appropriate, representative material is tested to validate drying behaviour and practical conditions before scale-up.

03 / PROCESS + CHILE REQUIREMENTS

System Design

Develop evaporation load, residence time, airflow, heating, material movement, controls, risk assessment, emissions and the applicable regulatory path.

04 / PROJECT EXECUTION

Supply & Commissioning Support

Coordinate manufacturing, technical documentation, Spanish-language information where applicable, installation supervision, commissioning and interfaces with relevant local bodies or permits.

Industrial dryer questions Mexico plants ask before they buy.

These are the points plant, operations, engineering, sustainability and procurement teams typically need to establish before selecting an industrial dryer.

What industries in Chile can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?

We work across mining and minerals, copper and metallurgy, lithium, pulp and paper, forestry and biomass, agro-processing, wine, food, salmon and seafood, fishmeal and aquafeed, animal feed, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, specialty chemicals, fertilizer, sludge, recycling and construction minerals.

Can we test our material before investing in a full-scale dryer?

Yes. Through the Dried & Tested program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final selection.

Can the dryer be designed around our required final moisture and production rate?

Yes. Configuration is developed around inlet moisture, target moisture, capacity, thermal sensitivity, particle size or sludge condition, altitude, utilities, dust or vapour risks, emissions and downstream process.

Is there one mandatory Chilean certification for every industrial dryer?

No. Chile does not apply one universal certification to every industrial dryer. The route depends on configuration: some electrical or fuel products can require SEC certification, while workplace safety, steam, gas, mining, food, hazardous substances and environmental permits are governed by separate frameworks.

What does D.S. 594 require for machinery and equipment at workplaces?

D.S. 594 requires machinery, installations, tools and equipment to be kept in safe working condition; moving parts, transmissions and operating points must be properly protected. It also requires electrical and gas installations to comply with the competent authority rules and includes ventilation and fire-prevention requirements.

Does the SEC mark automatically apply to a complete industrial dryer?

No. SEC maintains mandatory certification for specified electrical and fuel products that have applicable protocols. Regulated products must be certified and carry the required mark for commercialization, so scope should be checked component by component and against the final configuration.

Can foreign certification be used for products regulated by SEC?

For regulated products, SEC System 6 provides a special route for recognition of foreign certification, but Chilean certification is still processed through a SEC-authorized certification body under the applicable protocol. SEC also requires use, maintenance and installation manuals in Spanish under this route.

What applies if the system includes a boiler, steam or thermal fluid?

D.S. 10/2012 regulates steam boilers, heating boilers and thermal-fluid boilers, as well as autoclaves and equipment using steam at gauge pressure equal to or above 0.5 kg/cm² and the steam distribution network. Scope should be classified during engineering.

What should be reviewed for a gas-fired dryer?

D.S. 66/2007 establishes minimum safety requirements for interior gas installations in residential, commercial, industrial and public uses. The burner, gas train, meters, piping and site installation should be reviewed according to scope and applicable SEC requirements.

What applies when the material contains hazardous or flammable substances?

D.S. 43/2015 regulates safety conditions for hazardous-substance storage facilities. Drying processes should also address ventilation, contaminant capture, heat sources, fire prevention and risk control under D.S. 594. The design strategy should be defined around the actual material and generated-vapour properties.

Can a food dryer be designed around Chilean sanitary requirements?

Yes. Chile's Food Sanitary Regulation, D.S. 977/1996, requires utensils, containers, packaging and equipment used for food processing or preservation to be made or coated with materials resistant to the product and not release toxic, contaminating or food-altering substances.

What additional requirements can apply at a mining site?

Chile's Mining Safety Regulation, D.S. 132, applies to extractive mining activities. Among other requirements, it requires measures to protect people, equipment and installations and states that technical and operating specifications for equipment and machinery be in Spanish.

When can a drying project require environmental assessment in Chile?

Law 19,300 and SEIA Regulation D.S. 40/2012 determine which projects or activities must enter Chile's Environmental Impact Assessment System. The regulation was further amended by D.S. 17, effective 21 January 2026. Entry depends on project type, capacity, location and applicable thresholds.

What air-emission reporting obligations can affect the plant?

D.S. 138/2005 establishes reporting obligations for specified fixed sources and sectors. The Single Atmospheric Emissions Registry (RUEA) currently centralizes these reports for regulated facilities, including sources or processes listed by the rule. The project should verify whether boilers, furnaces, mineral processes or other sources fall within scope.

What ventilation and extraction requirements should be considered?

D.S. 594 requires adequate natural or mechanical ventilation and, where aerosols, fumes, gases, vapours or other harmful emissions exist, capture at source to prevent dispersion in the workplace. This is relevant to dust, vapours, odour and process gases associated with drying.

Can GEM Drytech supply components and documentation compatible with the Chilean market?

Yes. During engineering, motors, VFDs, PLC/HMI, instrumentation, protections, materials, drawings, Spanish-language manuals, safety documentation and regulated components can be specified according to the final scope, customer specification and applicable SEC or sector requirements.

What information should we send to receive a dryer recommendation?

Please share material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, particle size or sludge characteristics, maximum temperature, site altitude, heat source, electrical supply, plant location in Chile and intended use of the dried product.
